Take one car body, your BBQ unit and your patio set and roll them into one!

While I was browsing through my Road Royalty accountI came across this photo triplet of a BBQ setup. I guess if you have a derelict car body and are not exactly sure how to make use of it …well … here is one creative solution. We have seen, I have at least’ seen BBQ’s made of front or rear clips of some vehicle, this one uses the whole car! Just frickin awesome is all I can say. A whole bunch of time and effort for this setup and I commend the effort and the result. Take a look and decide for yourself.

I don’t know about you but I am headed out to see what kind of body I can come up with! Just Fooling! But this is one killer idea.

Or How I managed to take a week off and get nothing done

Been vacating this week and really haven’t gotten much of what I had planned done! But… spent some great time with Faye Dean. Going out on my birthday and a couple other times out during this week. Lots of Captain Morgan and Jethro Tull and outdoor time!

With that said one project that agitated me for a couple of reasons, was mounting, er…planning to mount, some rocker panel mouldings on the 65 to give it a bit of a trim upgrade. I cruised all the way out to Canton and National Parts Depot to get a new set of rocker trim mount clips. I get home and during the setup for the mounting of the trim I discovered that I had managed to ignore the fact that I had two right side units! I must take the blame for this one. I got them at a swap meet and they were bundled by the ends. The packaging hid this fact. And once I laid them out is when I discovered the pair were the same side. They are close but not the same. My bad, no biggie just agitating. Since they were swap meet stuff I have all winter to swap hunt and get another single or pair. Oh well! Got the clips!

Didn’t get any harness wiring or trim done on the 54 like I had planned but it will be there in the morrow. Front fenders are ready to be patched if I get energetic. Have to relevel the 54 suspension since the 351/AOD combo unloaded about 250 pounds off the front end! Now I have a nice tail down California rake, but I want it more even. Have to put smaller blocks in the back. I will install the Airlift add-on kit at the same time.

The 70 dash is farther along but not finished up yet. Switch panel is prototyped and mocked in. Passenger side insert is patterned but the driver side is still to do. Don’t know yet if I can dupe that side for the driver side yet or not. Gotta leave room for gauges and mounts that aren’t on the passenger side. still finagling with it

Small progress and sore hands. But I will take it! Old age sucks BIG TIME! But I will keep at it.

Note – I did manage to get resources for a new lamp! Stay tuned for a Car Deco update! [Hint code name:Satel-LIGHT]

Backin’ right over ya!

Remember what I said about being careful in the den? Here is why!

It’s a wall lamp, but with backup lights and a plate! Back THEN it was the rear end of a Chevy Caprice, NOW it is a wall / freestanding lamp complete with a plate and backup lights. The 6 former stop light spots will now be used in pairs as a 3 way (Low/Medium/High) lamp fixture. With low being 2 lights, medium using 4 and high all 6 are on. The lighting controls are hidden behind the drop down tag panel which is where the fuel filler was. Nicely hidden but accessible. The backup lights are going to be used as a night light feature.

Taillights in your face

The decision as to make it a wall unit or a free standing lamp is still being worked out but you get the idea. This part was a donation from a neighbor friend that knows of my Car Deco projects and dropped it off to me. So I couldn’t let it go to waste now could I? BZEROB

Run over by a sofa?

Well, not really! But in one of my more delusional moments I got the bright idea to create a sofa/divan from a Taurus front facia and a chrome truck step bar. Say What??!! Yeah, yeah, yeah. It made sense at the time so I fabbed it up with a plywood platform and … Voila! a sofa comin at ya in your den! Check out the pics.

Mocked up sofa

sofa comin atcha!

Front mockup view

The facia was donated by a local body shop and trimmed so it had a flat upper lip. And the step bar was a left over display item. Kinda hard to sell a single step bar. And NO, the Captain Morgan came a bit later! So now I gotta find a sewing machine to do the denim cover and decide on a color for the facia. The base is simply a box style support. License plate and lights are next!

Fair warning! If you don’t get RUN over by the sofa you may get BACKED over by the lamp! Stay Tuned!

Finishing up on two Car Deco pieces.

Control Arm Lamp

Strut Table

Strut Table

1) a control arm lamp and 2) a strut table.

Finished the wiring of the switch and light socket on the floor lamp but still have to color the top on the strut table and polish the hardware. But they are essentially done.

Two new Car Deco projects working
June 14, 2009, 4:49 pm
Filed under: Car Deco, General, Projects

Spent most of the day putting the flesh on my two new Car Deco projects. One is a side table made from two discarded suspension struts and the other is a floor lamp using an aluminum control arm for the arm and a 14 inch air cleaner assembly for the lamp housing. Got both of the bases completed, scuffed and painted. And plugged on all the trim ends. Now working on the side table top deck and the lamp wiring to get as much done for today.

Big Gratiot cruise on Saturday would like to add these to the display but it’s gonna be close. The Gratiot cruise is always fun and I am looking forward to it.

Stay Tuned!
