So far this year we have had some awesome days for the big cruises. Gratiot and Downriver turned out great. Both of those were hosted by my Advance Auto associates and their stores. Michigan Ave and Telegraph were also a treat. Good times and great cruise buddies make it all better than most. The musicbox has been a great hit at every cruise and makes the day go a bit nicer. Tunes to watch cars by! Don’t remember the Musicbox project? Well, you can get a refresher here. We have one more cruise next week, The North Gratiot cruise and then we are down to the big Daddy of all cruises.
I will be at one more show, next Sunday is the annual Mustang Memories show at Ford World HQ in Dearborn. Even though I am not a fan of MOCSEM the special attraction is that it will also be the Boss Reunion national gathering. I wanna see this. The national collection of everything Boss Mustang from then to now. I will be there.
With the Woodward Dream Cruise around the corner on August 20 I have been trying to tidy up a bunch of small issues on the 65 to make it ready. Haven’t gotten to NPD for the C pillar trim so we can reshoot the roof and have yet to mount the new rocker trim, but I did get the wiring for the radio and cigar lighter finalized so I don’t have to replug to pick my power source. A simple Y cable got the job done. Don’t know if I will get the undercar neon installed in time for the cruise but you never know.
Stay tuned! Film at 11!
There have been a lot of stories written about the Woodward Dream Cruise. And many have become more relevant with the economic downturn in recent times. This world class event does bring the world to Detroit. But like everything else there is cost involved. This Detroit News article highlights some of the moe transparent costs that are involved. Like the website, porta-johns and legal services. Just to mention a few.
Dream Cruise fun comes with costs for communities on route. What does it cost to put on the world’s largest one-day classic-car extravaganza, aka the Woodward Dream Cruise? No one — not even Woodward Dream Cruise Inc. — can say for sure. Jennifer Chambers / The Detroit News
Check out some of the costs in the Detroit News article by Jennifer Chambers.
It appears that Birmingham, MI has managed to prove once again, that the city and it’s residents are still the arrogant butt heads they have always been! They (Birmingham) have decided that they don’t want to be a part of the “official Woodward Dream Cruise”, for supposed financial issues, but somehow conveniently have managed to organize, and fund, their own cruise on the SAME day at the SAME location! I am not a rocket scientist but isn’t that kinda like plagiarism. Kinda says “We are here but not as an officially sanctioned participant! Don’t mind us we are having our own event here! We thought of this all by ourselves!”
Birmingham dreams up a new Woodward classic-car cruise. After leaving official Dream Cruise event, city plans one of its own. Birmingham has become a rogue ex-member of the Woodward Dream Cruise with plans to host its own, separate car cruise on Aug. 15, the same day as the big event. Jennifer Chambers / The Detroit News
These guys are a real treat! Read on folks.
In the last few days even the New York Times Wheels section editor Paul Stenquist finds it significant to at least make mention of our event! It is the biggest and the baddest and the world comes to see us!

Advance Auto Parts
The day started out crappy but ended up being sunny and nice. We had a great time and all the people that stopped by were super.
I have my pics from the store lot at the corner of 9 and Gratiot out on Flicker.
MotorCity Casino Hotel has agreed to be the presenting sponsor of the Saturday, Aug. 15, event. It is nice to see that with things a bad as they have been one of our local casinos has stepped up to continue a cruising tradition.
Pontiac is going to add a swap meet to their event!

Birmingham plans scaled-back show It looks like Birmingham is using the excuse of Shain Park expansion to cut back on their Dream Cruise participation.
It appears that a Huntington Beach CA publisher is sueing Cruisin’News over the use of “The Official Woodward Dream Cruise” wording. The fact that the August issue of a monthly magazine is given away free at the cruise while the Glossy version is a buy it item seems to escape the situation. The fact that this guys’ street hawkers can’t seem to sell to the over a million spectators is a sad excuse for a law suit. His street hawkers apparently suk! Read the article a see what your take is!
